Last month I went up to Seattle to check in on some Chevy powered drifters at Round 5 of Formula DRIFT. Below is a link to one of three articles I have coming out in the next week from my trip up to my home track, Evergreen Speedway. It was a fun weekend and quite a change of scenery than what I was used to seeing there growing up. Drifting is a whole different animal than the stock cars and figure-eight racing from my childhood years.

Chinese-American Driver David Cheng Scores Podium Finish at Mid Ohio

International race driver David Cheng made his American Le Mans Series debut at Mid Ohio just this past weekend. Running with team PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports and co-driver Javier Echeverria, they were fielding an LMP Challenge car.

“I started the car from fifth on the grid; our plan was to be fast, consistent, and to stay out of trouble; let the aggressivecompetitors make mistakes and fall by the wayside. Sure enough, many competitors did just that, taking themselves out of the race and some getting penalized for making mistakes.” stated David Cheng, “I brought the car in after my stint, and handed it over to teammate Javier Echeverriawho took over our run from the 2nd place spot…I was feeling good about my on track efforts and the team’s performance.”

The duo brought the car home in a healthy third place finish and Cheng later mentioned to reporters that it was a dream come true for his first appearance in the series. It was a clean race for the team and they dealt well with the track and changing weather conditions throughout the weekend.

The American Le Mans Series is presented by Tequila Patron and this round was the Mid Ohio Sports Car Challenge. It was a festive weekend at the track as the World Challenge and Indy Racing League were also present. The American Le Mans Series proudly promotes themselves as being the Global Leader in Green Racing.

Cheng looks ahead to his next ALMS event which should be Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta this October. Meanwhile, he’s heading back to Asia for rounds seven and eight in the VW Scirocco R Cup taking place next weekend in Malaysia.

Global Tuner Grand Prix and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to put World’s Top Performance Tuners and Racers in Head to Head Battle

Monterey, CA, August 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — The Global Tuner Grand Prix is proud to announce that Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is hosting the first ever Global Tuner Grand Prix, taking place Friday, October 22^nd through Sunday, October 24^th, 2010.

The Global Tuner Grand Prix is a spectator event with top professional performance tuners from around the world competing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The GTGP is similar to Europe’s Tuner GP and Japan’s International Lap Battle competitions but is the first of its kind in North America. This specific weekend is 1 of 4 No sound restriction Pro weekends at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is the only track in North America where lap times for production cars are recognized by major manufacturer’s and motorsport media moguls around the world. A lap time here is used as a measuring stick for a vehicle’s performance, equivalent to the Nurburgring in Germany. “What a great way to end our major event season, bringing our fans the best in global tuner competition,” said Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “To put Porsche, Corvette and Mazda together in competition will be a true global motorsports event.”

About the Global Tuner Grand Prix:

The GTGP consists of three classes of cars, open to all Import, European and Domestic vehicles. This includes Street, Tuner and Unlimited. The three different classes each are bracketed in three categories that include Front-Wheel Drive, Rear-Wheel Drive, All-Wheel Drive.

THE GTGP Challenge Race is an all out wheel-to-wheel no holds barred 50-minute sprint race that will showcase the best sports cars in the world from the Pro Racing ranks down to the fastest Club racers.

Event Features:

-Pirelli Driver’s Cup will feature two main events with a 45-minute timed race on Saturday and a 45-minute timed race on Sunday. The series runs both Porsche 996 and 997 GT3 Cup Cars.

-The Historic Motorsports Association is participating with a 30-minute sprint race on Saturday running vintage and historic stock cars to their limits, taking you back in time to how hard wheel to wheel racing used to be.

-Exhibitor displays and Manufacturer displays in the main paddock and the Yamaha market place. Offering a trade show atmosphere at a professional race venue immersing spectators in a showcase of the best of what the industry has to offer while displaying proven performance on the race track. No other event in North America offers this experience for the industry as well as consumers.

ACT TODAY hits a hole in one with 4th successful Golf Tourney for Autism!

At the Breamar Country Club and Golf Course the ACT TODAY team gathered on May 17th to join forces with celebrities, the media and people in our community that come out to raise money and awareness for children with autism.

We have many success stories and in many cases we are curing children with these related disorders. ACT Today! is the brainchild of several passionate people who believe access to early, effective treatment is vital for individuals with ASDs. Together with Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh, a leading provider of therapy to autistic children with over 25 years of experience, this group created ACT Today! to do just as the name implies – take action immediately to treat autism.

Now, I know you’re wondering if I golf and how I did. Lucky for me I was able to practice some drifting in the golf cart on wet grass. For some reason that kept me busy long enough to forget how to play golf. I enjoyed meeting some great new people who are really dedicated to helping ACT TODAY. New signs of hope for the future with big names bringing heavy hitting hybrids to Geneva

The Salon de la Auto is a spectacular show in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Geneva Switzerland. When I attended the show in 2008 there was a presence for alternative power in some personal transport vehicles but mostly in a very small scale economy version feel. The car of the show that year was the Audi R8 TDI which is one of my personal favorites. Lot’s to love with this car especially if you’re already a fan of the brand.

I’ve set my eyes on the Porsche 918 as this car stole the show for me this year in Geneva. Ferrari, Bentley and Lotus are other major high end automakers that have shown interest in the efficiency arena. It’s clear to see that we are going to continue to watch new things come as we learn the way of the future. This is very inspirational and encouraging to see these cars making such a splash and actually coming with the backing of well respected auto makers. As much as I love race cars and high end performance cars that run on fossil fuel I think it’s important to realize it’s not always necessary to run our daily commuters, transporters and shippers on a fuel that is meant for high performance.

I am happy to get involved with ACT TODAY and see what great things we are able to do for kids that are getting better and proper care from aid we are able to provide. There are so many ways you can take part and help out. Come take a look at our golf tournament coming up this spring and I hope to see you there.

To start off the new year, 2010!!, I have created a new setup for my photo gallery on Picasa. I’m going to archive one folder with photos from previous years and then we’re going to have a new folder that will have everything happening now in 2010.
